An introduction to some of the technical natural trails around Aberfoyle
MAX HEIGHT GAINED
Beside the Woolen Mill take the tarmac path through the trees that is National Cycle route 7 heading south. After about a mile take the track going right, cross the river and take right again. Options now – the wee track that appears on the left is a stiff, short climb that cuts the corner, or go on to the crossroads and go left. At the sharp right you have the option of going down the short piece as a warm-up, or straight of the corner for the Easter park trail. Avoid the boardwalk which is treacherous in the wet, then low gear to see how far up the hill you can cycle (brilliant bluebell show in spring). Nice level and gentle downhill then a sharp right into a technical rocky bit, then easier except for roots and down to the river. Turn right onto riverside, left along this, then right takes you to the trackback to the bridge and back to Aberfoyle the way you came out. Lots of great wee trails in this area if you want to explore.
